If you get funding finding an institution will not be a problem. Finding the one where you'll get the right support is another matter. Research your field and try to get an expert as your supervisor. The working relationship is also important so speak to the person, meet them and try to work out if you can work with the person before you start.
I actually found my PhD advertised with full studentship funding on www.graduatesyorkshire.co.uk. You may find something funded that is close to your preferred subject area on a site like that if the area is lucrative to the university, i.e. it brings in investment from either industry or the government.
